Team Sail - Team Building with Yachts

It takes great team work to race a yacht efficiently. Team Sail is one of our most challenging team building events.

Objectives

Team Sail is designed to demonstrate the strengths and potential weaknesses of your team through the medium of sailing, navigating and racing a yacht. Team Sail is a challenging, physical and incredibily rewarding programme which adventurous teams can enjoy under the watchful gaze of our training skippers.

Activity

As one of our Senior Team Facilitators is a keen Yachtsman, EML is uniquely placed to provide focused sailing based team building events.

A typical Team Sail will commence with the obligatory coffee and bacon roll at our reception centre at Hamble Marina. Participants are issued with wet weather gear, given a health and safety briefing and a boat orientation. Following this introduction we will run through a couple of quick-fire team building games to give our facilitators a chance to observe your teams in action before creating the crews for the morning session.

The new crews will then take to the water and make way out into the Solent for a brilliant hands on morning session of sailing drills, navigation and cruising over to Cowes.

After a hearty lunch in a Cowes pub our facilitator will run a debrief session and the participants will discuss their performance and the dynamics of each crew. Following the group discussion, new 'balanced' crews will be formulated based on the observations made and the event will enter into a high performance phase with crews racing or time trialing back to Hamble.

Team Sail can be run over a single day on the water or can be run over a 2 day programme culminating in a race against a rival crew or a time trial. Team Sail can be tailored to incorporate Belbin Team Roles, Myers Briggs Type Indicator or Insights Discovery and thus provide deep understanding of how your teams function under pressure.

The Yachts

Working closely with an established yacht charter company based out of Hamble on the Solent, EML runs Team Sail on a range of 40 superior quality yachts. Our charter partner provides training skippers of the highest calibre for each boat to oversee every practical aspect of the programme and ensure the safety of the boat and crew at all times.

Our superb yachts provide a unique venue for team building as they include a galley (for making tea and snacks), heads (toilets to you and me) and even budget accommodation if you don't mind sharing! Our boats range in size from 7 berth up to 20 berth and as such your group will be divided into rival crews or directed to work together as appropriate.

Locations

EML's Team Sail is based out of Port Hamble Marina, Hamble, Southampton, UK. We have plenty of parking on site. Just 15 minutes by taxi is Southampton Parkway or Southampton Central which in turn are 75 minutes from central London on the fast train.
